Since I see not many people have the artifact disccoverer medal yet, I decided to explain how to get it here. It is a nice medal with +1 all stats, 5 jump 5 speed and its PERMANENT 
Artifact event might seem pointless to all of you since the glasses and hat you get after a few thousand points are cr4ppy and time limited (perma items are only for the top 10 list every week), the medal might be the only thing worth getting out of this event.
So here it goes: First thing you need to do, is get an excavation permit from Charles. This permit lasts 1h, after which you have to renew it if you want to be able to pick mystical artifacts and get artifact points.
After this step, all you need to do is grind! Artifacts drop randomly from all most monsters in maple. Mobs in Magatia, Singa, CBD don't drop artifacts (ty Mab for input).
To obtain the medal, you need to pick all 8 of MYSTICAL ARTIFACTS. Artifact points and rankings have nothing to do with this and are irrelevant to the medal. You still do need the excavation permit to pick the mystical artifacts though. Once you pick a mystical artifact, you get a light bulb over your head. You double click it, and it tells you where to give that artifact. Usually it is maple admin, with a few exceptions, such as Charles' glasses, that u need to give to charles himself. If I remember correctly the only other npcs besides maple admin you need to visit is Cassandra and Manji. Also, I noticed I couldn't get a new artifact when I already had one in my etc inventory, but it might have just be random.
Make sure you always have 1 etc slot empty in case you find one!!!
The 8 mystical artifacts are (taken from Darkwater's guide):
1. Petrified Mouse
2. Gaga's Glasses
3. Cassandra's Crystal Ball
4. Shiny Watch
5. Nice Cleat
6. Quest Completion Book
7. Pretty Hairband
8. Old Shoe
When you get all of them and deliver all of them, you need to head to perion excavation site and talk to Shuang -the npc that lets you in guild pq- and she gives you the medal!
