The hunter with the rifle took a shot but with a swift movement, the cannon was already in place to block the gunshot. To swing the huge and heavy cannon so quickly! This show of strength and speed caused the hunters to abandon the cage and flee. Mercedes was in awe. Who is this guy? He suddenly dropped the cannon on the floor and cried out “Owwwww! I think I sprained my arm.” while rubbing his wrist ruefully. The monkey beside him began to snicker while Mercedes sweat drop. = =” He headed towards the cage and opened it to allow the other three lupins to escape. Mercedes then started towards him and when he saw her! He cursed to himself. "I was too careless!" he thought to himself and he found himself drifting back to the past. ************************************************** ******************************** Few months ago, Canon Shooter has been searching for the missing Mercedes for 100 years but to no avail. "Where are you?" he sighed for the thousandth time. A little fairy suddenly appeared with a piece of rolled-up paper and smacked his head with it. "Ouch!" he cried out in surprise. The fairy started giggling uncontrollably. "Watch it Bell!" Rubbing his head, he unrolled the paper and started reading. “She is back! Meet at Eurel.” “I can’t believe it” Cannon Shooter cried out with a whoop and gave Bell a big kiss, thus wetting her beyond believe. "That's payback! Bleh!" Cannon Shooter quickly rushed back to Eurel. Before entering the town, he saw Freud standing just beside the entrance. The moment he saw Cannon Shooter, Frued gave him a sad look. For a moment, Cannon Shooter was afraid. “What happened? Is she ok?” “Calm down. She is fine but….. she has lost all memories from 100 years ago…..” “Whew! That’s fine. As long as she is alright and I’m sure we can slowly regain her memories…” Freud sighed “I think you will need to prepare yourself for what you will see soon…” A very confused Cannon Shooter entered Eurel. At the far end of town, he saw his beloved. Her kind and beautiful sapphire eyes, her long golden hair. She was still the same as she was 100 years ago but she looked so sad and lonely. His heart-ached when he saw this. He remembered Mercedes to be always smiling and laughing at his tricks. He started to rush towards her but he suddenly noticed someone with dull red hair and black devil wings, was already walking towards her and he called out to her “Mercedes”. He saw her head turn towards the stranger and her face lightened up. “Demon Slayer” her voice full of love. Demon Slayer and Mercedes started talking softly to each other and bursting out laughing occasionally. Then Demon Slayer whispered to Mercedes and she blushed deep red with embarrassment. Cannon Shooter was dumbfounded by the affectionate scene which was playing out in front of him. He then turned to Freud, who had silently followed Cannon Shooter into Eurel. Freud smiled apologetically “I’m sorry..... Demon Slayer was the one who brought Mercedes back. They have been like this since then. I tried mentioning your name but she has no memory of anything except the ferocious battle with the Black Mage.” Cannon Shooter backed away. How can this happen?!? He went back to his little room at Nautilus to calm down and to gather his thoughts together. Feeling a tear roll down his cheeks, he decided to let go of Mercedes. "It's better this way. She won't have to choose between me and another guy. I swear I will never appear in her sight ever again." ************************************************** ******************************** Back to reality.... He hastily adjusted his expression as she drew nearer. She invited him to come over to her village to get him patched up but he refused. However she insisted as he saved the lupins from her forest. After a few minutes of intense arguing he sighed “I can never win against you, can I?” She was taken aback for a moment. “Pardon me, have we met before?” He just laughed heartily and shook his head. “Hello, I’m Cannon Shooter"when suddenly the monkey started prancing around Canon Shooter's head screeching and pulling his hair.... ".......and this here is Monkey. Nice to meet you. And you are?” “I’m Mercedes” she smiled her elegant smile. His heart thudded with an awful ache but he swallowed it and forced himself to smile back. Back in Mercedes home...., Cannon Shooter was screaming loudly while she was rubbing ointment on his wrist. "For goodness sake! Stop crying out like a baby!" she exclaimed. She can't believe this is the same guy who saved those lupins in the forest. As time passes, she began to realise that he looked very familiar. However he showed no sign of recognition towards her. “Must have been my imagination” but she had a flash of memory, someone whom she have met before, someone younger, that tanned face, that same silver hair and that bright emerald eyes. “Hmmmm….Cannon Shooter…. Freud has mentioned this name before. Who is he?” she mused." |
