Background Information:
With the influx of many new classes like Mercedes, Demon Slayer, and revamping of classes like Aran, Evan, Resistance, I've decided to make a mini guide for all who are still wondering which class to choose. And yes, I will keep this thread updated base on any job changes.
Ultimately, I hope this thread helps those that are still wondering which Maplestory class to choose. Enjoy :)

A little about myself and my mechanic: JunXMech
I was one of the old players, starting at around 2007 with spearman, hermit, quit for around 3 years before returning during the "Big Bang" Patch, where the Resistance classes was being rolled out. I played Wild hunter, but grew tire of its playstyle, large hitbox and frailness. And I started playing Mechanic on the 1st day it was release, which was 1 month after wild hunter was released. It was something fresh, with 100% stance and a rush-mob skill right from lv10, it was an awesome feel. But it was being bandwagon badly, every where you go, there were mechanics spamming drill rush and hammer and no cool down rock n shock. I thoroughly enjoyed the gameplay, which was why I remain loyal to my mechanic when more than half the mechanic got wiped out after the chaos patch's nerf for mechanic. Throughout the patches, from leveling by hunting at werewolf, papu/zak, to Lion Heart Castle PT System, to Stronghold PT System, to current PQ system, I grew to be greatly attached to my mechanic, with its gameplay and uniqueness.
And my mech turned out to be my very first Lv200 Character in Maplestory :) On 11th of May 2012, few days before legend patch.
But of course, Lv200 isn't the only goal out there in maplestory, I will touch on that later.

The "Trick" to choosing a Class in Maplestory

Basically, when choosing a class, NOBODY, I repeat, NOBODY can tell you which class to play.
You create a thread, list your criteria, Even if a class fits all your criteria, it doesnt mean that that is the class for you, as gameplay simply can't be describe in words at times, and differ from player to player depending on playstyle and skills and funding.

And let me repeat a very important point.
There is no such thing is a weak class, just different classes for different purpose.

And remember, Nexon(developer of Maplestory) tactic is to revamp classes on a regular basis. Meaning no matter how strong or how weak a character is, it will not be the same story after a revamp.
So, Always, ALWAYS, choose a class that you LIKE, because the gameplay doesn't change even after a revamp, understand ?
Because how strong it is, will always be relative to other classes.

And another point about maplestory is that, funding is actually the most important factor in determining whether your character will be strong or weak.
Funding can be from different source, either from trading in game, or MTS, or from your own wallet.
And of course, how you fund your character is another story.

Whats your Goal in Maplestory ?
Just another question for you all to ponder about.
Is it for Bossing ?
Is it just a class for you to chill with your friends and explore maple world ?
Is it a PVP class ?
Is it just a class that trains fast and can hit lv200 as soon as possible ?

Although there is no pure job role in maplestory, as most of the class is a mix of here and there or with some good party skill.
MapleStory is not a solo rpg, you need to party with people to play/fight strong bosses, unless you can pump few hundred K's of real $.
So know/love your role and you will play happily and sorry about the bandwagon, you can never avoid it.

Here is a nice video featuring All jobs in Maplestory.
It includes(after resistance, Legendary Heroes Revamp), Pirate/Thief, DB revamp, Phantom Release and up till Mikhail Release.
Its 40 mins long, have a nice watch, nice background music too !

Okay, After watching the video, I shall teach you how to research(LOL) on your class.

Guide to researching for a Class

Basically, the key work is Research, Research, Research.

Basically there are a few sources.
To check for updates in maplestory:
For MapleSEA: http://maple.asiasoftsea.com/updates/ << But do note that patch note are usually not up until few days before the actual patch
For GMS/KMS:
Orange Mushroom's Blog
shakar95 | The GMS & KMS Blog
KMS is basically around 10~12 months ahead of MSEA, so you can plan in advance if you want.
We have an "Other Maplestory Service" above our General Discussion Page here, but there isn't really an "in charge" so its quite messy.

To check for gameplay
Simply go to http://www.youtube.com/, and type something like "Maplestory Demon Slayer Lv120 Training" or "Maplestory Mercedes Solo Zakum".
But do note that people who usually post their video is because they funded their character to have high dmg and hp, thats why they are in a sense "showing off" their character, so don't be dishearten if your damage differs greatly from those in the videos.

For indepth Discussion or forums
BasilMarket's Forum << Basically a forum for GMS players, quite alot of indepth discussion going on there.
South Perry Forum

For Accurate Data and Game Mechanics
South Perry's Homepage << Yeah, south perry is still the place for that.

Another easier way to search for class discussion is basically just
Type "Maplestory Mercedes VS Demon Slayer" in your google search engine, and click on those Basilmarket links.

Here's another pointer besides watching the numbers: Always look at the main focus of each class because the core of the class will never change even if damage is changed. If you're one of those multi-classers like me (omg), be sure to study the pros and cons of each class before you decide to fund one as it'll save you the tears if it gets nerfed.Besides this, Adventurers and Resistance classes are your best bet if you want a job that's stable and has good utility, while the Heroes boast a higher potential for damage and have cooler looking skills but are always more liable to be nerfed heavily. Orange Mushroom's Blog is by far the most useful general guide for how your class is going to progress so I suggest you hit the books early if you're in the planning stage!Edit: +1 to mega. ;P

woohoo awesome TS!any job is good if you know how to handle it well. created my current main during the dying end of the DK bandwagon back in 06/07 (no 4th job back then) - ridiculously OP job in DPS, survivability AND party functionality at that time, seriously... never regretted sticking to it even though they've been outclassed and outdamaged by other jobs (DHB potential, ouch), still enjoy being able to whack the crap out of anything without worrying about HP (except the major bosses) or attack combinations or etc. and dark impale's mobbing ability is to die for :py08: + rush = great mob control.my two cents: like what you play, if not why play :py01: if you like high DPS, then go for high DPS. all about the experience!

Warriors
Hero

Info: Hero, one of the 3 warrior of the Adventurer. He is usually known to be one that dishes out the most damage among the 3 warriors due to his def ignore and dmg boost skills.
More info:BasilMarket: Fighter to Hero - In Depth FAQ and Guide
Role: Basically a tough meele fighter whose main job is to deal dmg, along with magic crashing of the boss with his fellow warriors to prevent cancel wa/ma and damage reflect.
List of Skills: Basilmarket: Hero Skills information
Party Buffs/Support skills: Rage(+30wa), Magic Crash
DPS, Skills % Data: South Perry: Warrior %/s (Tempest Warrior, Aran, Demon Slayer, Mikhail, Kaiser, and JMS Hayato)
Pros:
  • High Base HP among the warriors,
  • Great for solo players
  • Post-Ascension highest 1v1 warrior neutral damage (Darkness+Enrage)

Cons:
  • Meele, short reach
  • "DPS-value" in parties can be easily replace by other classes
  • No Ultimate at all
  • Low Mobility
  • Requires orb charging to deal proper damage
  • Rage is a great party buff, but can be easily replace by weapon attack potions and not that game changing

Mobility: Low, with SlipStream(2nd job) and Rush(4th job)
Hp/Defense: 4(out of 5), Great HP, Has Power Guard,
Control Friendliness:
Party Bossing: 6(out of 10), great, but not a must Rage, decent rusher. But if the party lacks a crasher/binder, its will be compulsory to have him then.
Main Attacking Skill:
Mobbing:
Training Speed: 2(out of 5)
Changes in his Role from the past: With the introduction of many new dps classes, hero isn't that valued as the DPS dealer in the squad. And in parties, paladin(CO,threaten) and Dark Knight(HB) is usually more needed that hero, and the release of demon slayer with his Binding Darkness and Boss crash immune system didn't help either.
Popularity: Low
Notable Places where it shines:
Equipment/scrolls price and availability:

Dark Knight
Posted Image

Info: Dark Knight, one of the 3 warrior in the Adventurer, is usually known for his Hyper Body and dragon-related Skills. Hyper Body basically made DrK one of the top few demanded class for bossing.
More info:Basil Market: Official Spearman, DK, and DrK Guide
Role: Basically a meele mob-main fighter whose main job is to boost party survivability with hyper body, along with magic crashing of the boss with his fellow warriors to prevent cancel wa/ma and damage reflect.
List of Skills: Basilmarket: Dark Knight Skills Information
Party Buffs/Support skills: Hyper Body(+60% HP/MP), Iron Will, Magic Crash
DPS, Skills % Data: South Perry: Warrior %/s (Tempest Warrior, Aran, Demon Slayer, Mikhail, Kaiser, and JMS Hayato)
Pros:
  • Highest Total HP among the warriors(due to HB)
  • Highest Base MP
  • Low HP Pot usage due to Dragon Wisdom draining HP
  • Hyper Body a Must for Bossing squads
  • Not bad dps for 1v6 mobs
  • Has a mini ulti, Dragon Roar, at 3rd job, though not as good as Pala's sanc, but better than Hero who has none
  • Furthest Range among Adventurer Warriors.

Cons:
  • Lowest base HP compared to adventurer warriors
  • Lowest 1v1 dps for adventurer warrior
  • Don't have any defense reduction skills though its a meele class
  • Meele, but slightly further reach than other warriors
  • Slow, similar to other warriors
  • Buff dependant job
  • Beholder skills take time to cast/buff

Mobility: Low, with slipstream and rush only
Hp/Defense: 3(out of 5), HP is on the high side, but defense is lacking, and is an issue for meele class
Control Friendliness
Party Bossing: 8(out of 10), Hyper Body(60%hp/mp) and magic crash, nuff said. But when phantom is out, its a different story..
Main Attacking Skill: Dark Impale(1v6), Sacrifice(1v1)
Mobbing:
Training Speed: 2(out of 5)
Changes in his Role from the past: Recently, there is a huge increase in amount of high dps classes, but has low hp, hence actually increasing the demand for dark knight.
Popularity: Low, still an old school class to many.
Notable Places where it shines: Large mob spawn areas where he can just dark impale and survive off dragon wisdom.
Equipment/scrolls price and availability: Str% is still on the high side, though pole arm is averagely priced, and spear on the low price.
Extra Points to note: The lack of a proper defense skills can be dangerous.. high hp sounds nice, but in bossing, your teammate have your HB + their own defense skills, while you only have your own HB, and you are meele.
And be prepared for a crisis when phantom is released.
