Your main objective when you play MapleStory

Just wanna ask this question because there's just so many kinds of people in there, ranging from fancy, rich and fully funded people (who may or may not be still complaining about their damage) who frequently uses megaphones, few times a day, to those insignificant people who takes it much easily, moving along even if they're unfunded, and just do things to the slow rhythm. So I really am curious as to what are the motives when you play this game. 

It just marvels me as to why some people would dedicate so much time and money just to develop a virtual game character, or why some would just go around, do as told by the game, and eventually just fade away unnoticed, or why some would make countless characters just to sell fame, or why the higher level characters tend to be the funded ones.
