MapleStory CvP and PvP (2012/2013)

CvP and PvP will arrive to Maplesea, probably at year 2012 or year 2013, as GMS already patched in.

MapleStory PvP Tips
GMS: PvP and the Golden Temple Item Explosion!

It was synchronized with a Rank Up.  ‘Twas beautiful.
For that matter, my ambition leveled up in that instant as well.

It was quite the coincidence too: check out my stats just before the round

100% rank exp, 1500 bp, and one game left to lv.  I think ranks might be level-limited, but either way, this was one hell of a coincidence.
So now I’m dealing good damage, and I’m gonna be taking it slower with ms.  PvP is fun and all, but I’ve gotten the items and the levels (15 times at pvp).
I’ll be hunting for an Angelic Bless for a while; turns out they can stack with the pvp ring.   do wannnnnt.

First off, I'm a Mapler who (1) likes making vids and (2) likes bringing new content to the fore in a new, lolistic way. That being said, if you want a more texty description, here it is:

there are two main updates in the next patch (Cake Vs. Pie). Before I get into them, I'll need to explain some basics. Once a day, talk to one of the new NPCs, Cake Boss Daniel or Pie Lord Tiara to become either a Pie Lover or a Cake lover. This is only temporary (until midnight). Then you will be able to pick up your dessert (cake or pie, depending on who you are) and turn in to your respective NPC. When a certain number of cakes/pies have been turned in, that Team will take over the town. The major updates are:

Boss Raid

1) An ani-like raid where every 30 minutes (starting at 15 after the hour) a green envelope pops up that you can click on and will send you to a 1 minute waiting room (like Ani) where you can form a party. You then must kill your opponent's Giga (so if you're a cake lover you kill the pie boss) and a whole lot of cakes/pies drops for the winning team (i.e. if you win you will be able to contribute more to the town takeover). This is mostly all this raid is good for.

Town Takeover

2) More importantly is the takeover itself. After the takeover you will receive a red envelope (again similar to Ani) where you go into another waiting room. This time, you will be assigned as either the attacking team or the defending team, depending on your cake/pie team.

The attacking team tries to destroy "the barricade" by either (1) using skills and attacking it (better for high levels) or (2) "attack"ing a flour sack, which summons little cake/pie bombs. These bombs will walk to the right to the barricade and if they hit it will do a tremendous amount of damage. That being said, they're relatively easy to be killed by your opponents.

The defending team has a much tougher job, as if your opponents are only using strategy 1 then there's nothing you can do but twiddle your thumbs. However, if they are using strategy 2 you can either attack the bombs to explode them before they reach their target or you can drop this special item (which is dropped from the barricade) on a blue and red pillar to either slow down the bombs movement or do a lot of damage to the bombs (the second would be more helpful for a lower level party). Again, with higher levels, the defending team really has a lame job.

Purpose of the town takeover

I won and lost a few times each, and each time I won, I received about 76k experience and 6 insignias and lost received 58k exp and only 1 insignia. Make sure you wait until all the other battles are finished, or else you won't receive your reward. Once they are, click on the npc's to receive it. These insignias may be exchanged for maple weapons (50-60 ea), Chaos Scrolls (125), WS's (300), what seems to be a free weapon cover (175), a chair (200), a 2-person Mount (300), and two shoulder equips (1 and 2 att) (300 and 400, respectively).

Also after you won you receive access to 3 mini dungeons, levels 40-70 I believe, though these monsters give significantly less experience than similar monsters at Haunted House. And finally, if you win you receive 10% bonus experience when you kill monsters! Groovy!

I think that's it... that's a lot of text. I spent so much time trying to figure out tespia/(actually testing it), ask me questions if you want!

10 days ago, on January 15th, the Super Fight (PvP) content was added to the official KMS server. Since then there has been a lot of balencing to PvP to make it fair and fun for everyone. As of now, there is an event going on where you have to achieve certain scores, and if you reached these scores, you are awardedwith Larson Challenger Event items. The event items expire, but if you have reached 1000 points and done the previous quets, you get awarded with a permanant one.
Recently, the Ice Knight option as added to the KMST server.
Ice Knight has been added to Super Fight (PvP) which means it’s available for everyone.
To start Ice Knight mode, there has to be 10 players available in the map. The match has a time limit of 7 minutes. Once 10 people enter the map, a countdown from 3 will start the match.
As a challenger, you have kill the Ice Knight with the other 9 people in the map. There’s a blue HP bar that indicates the amount of HP that the Ice Knight has left.
As an Ice Knight, you have to eliminate the challengers.
The Ice Knight has an “Ice Guage” which fills up when the Ice Knight attacks players. Each attack from the Ice Knight reequires Ice from the Ice Guage.
The Ice Knight has an ‘ice gauge’, the gauge can fill up when the Ice Knight attacks players.
Each attack from the Ice Knight requires ice which can be obtained by filling up the ice gauge.

Ice Chop – The Ice Knight can swing his axe forward to hit and possibly stun as many challengers.
Command:  ↓ + attack key
Ice Smash – The Ice Knight can transform his axe into a giant sword and can smash and freeze many challengers.
Command: ↑↑ + attack key

Ice Tempest – The Ice Knight can attack many challengers with a powerful force of ice that’s able to leave damage over time.
Command: ↓→ + attack key

Ice Panic - The Ice Knight can cast a strong curse that’s able to transform challengers into snails.
Command: ↓↑ + attack key
Also, the Ice Knight can double jump (jump key + jump key) like Wild Hunter’s Jaguar.
There’s a new pet in MapleStory – the Persian Cat! Unlike other pets, the Persian Cat can autobuff one skill! This means that there are three pets that can autobuff for you: Skunk, Scuba Duck and Persian Cat.

Chaos Brings PvP to MapleStory!

The Chaos update has brought and is bringing a lot of changes to Maple World, the most significant of which is the introduction of PvP gameplay. In this edition of AcornStory, we’ll introduce you to the concepts of PvP, how they’re implemented in MapleStory, and how you can get started in the exciting world of hero versus hero competition.

PvP vs. PvE

Massively multiplayer online games are traditionally divided into two distinct styles of gameplay: Player vs. Environment [PvE] and Player vs. Player [PvP]. While some games may contain both, each type of gameplay offers a distinct experience. The way your character’s powers and items work, indeed the very rules of the world itself may change drastically when you cross over from one type of gameplay to the other. It’s extremely important then, to understand what these two styles are and how they differ.

PvE

The “Player vs. Environment” experience is what most people think of when they think of an MMO. During PvE, players take on monsters and obstacles managed by the computer. Any character directly controlled by a computer is called an “NPC” or “Non-Player Character.” PvE gameplay usually consists of player characters battling against NPCs, rather than against each other, though there may be limited exceptions. Sometimes, for example, a PvE encounter requires two teams of players to compete against one another for a prize. In general though, the key characteristic for PvE is that players fight NPCs.

PvP

PvP, or “Player vs. Player,” is a completely different experience. During PvP, players can use their powers, weapons, and abilities to directly attack one another. As with a PvE monster, these attacks will cause damage and should your character’s HP fall to zero, your character will die. Various PvP scenarios are possible. Sometimes PvP gameplay is combined with PvE obstacles or other gameplay dynamics, but the defining element of a PvP scenario is that players fight each other.
Getting started

http://nxcache.nexon.net/spotlight/113/00CVQ-6fb3a077-ac49-4668-94ac-7b3c9739c7e3.PNG
To begin a PvP session, your character must be level 30 or above. You can then find NPC Maximus in any major town and do the following:
• Speak with Maximus to be teleported to Battle Square.
• Once in Battle Square, speak with NPC Crawson. This will bring up the Battle Mode window. This window allows you to select what type of PvP game you wish to play and what tier you wish to play in.
• Click the START button. The game will search for opponents and then bring you both into a PvP match.

Battle Mode Tiers

Battle Mode “tiers” segregate players by level, in order to keep matches fair. There’s no way a level 30 Mage, for example, could possibly fight a level 175 Aran. The differences in power and equipment would make the fight too one-sided. By restricting players to certain tiers, we make sure that everyone has the chance to compete on a fairly level playing field.
Note: Players above the level limit for a tier are allowed to compete in the lower tier except for the Rookie tier, but certain skills will be blocked from use and the effects of certain items will be reduced.

Tiers

• Rookie: The Rookie tier is available for Maplers between level 30 and level 69. Players can use any first or second job advancement skills. Evan characters can use up to 5th growth stage skills. Dual Blade characters can use up to 3rd level skills.
• Gladiator: The Gladiator tier is available for all Maplers above level 70. Players can use any first, second or third job advancement skills. Evan characters can use up to 8th growth stage skills. Dual Blade characteres can use up to 3rd+ level skills.
• Veteran: The Veteran tier is available for all Maplers above level 120. All skills can be used. Item and equipment effects may be reduced for balance purposes.
• Legend: The Legend tier is available for all Maplers above level 180. All skills can be used. Items and equipment give their full effects in this tier. However, no Battle Mode potions will drop in this mode.

Battle Mode Games

Once you have selected your tier, you can choose from two types of PvP games: Free-for-all and Team Mode.
Free-for-all

http://nxcache.nexon.net/spotlight/113/00CVQ-ecfffa14-7bdf-4901-bd17-1d00e1299b7b.png
Free-for-all is a no-holds-barred battle to the finish. Everyone you see on the battlefield is the enemy. Simply fight until time runs out!
• All players’ scores will be displayed in a box in the upper-right corner of the screen.
• Everyone is a winner in this mode! After the game is over, everyone will be awarded Battle Points and Battle EXP based on their overall score. The higher your score, the bigger your reward!

Team Mode
http://nxcache.nexon.net/spotlight/113/00CVQ-9c33a3da-865f-4e21-ab42-7cb86547dcce.png
In Team Mode, players will be separated into “Red” and “Blue” teams. The object is to defeat members of the opposing team. The team that defeats the most members of the opposing team is the winner!
• The collected team scores are shown next to the timer.
• Individual scores and rankings are shown in a window in the upper right.
• Each team member’s health is also displayed. Use this to assist one another.
• Each player is awarded Battle Points and Battle EXP based on their individual scores with a bonus for the winning team.

Battle Mode Gameplay
While fighting against other players, you’ll note a number of gameplay differences from normal PvE.
http://nxcache.nexon.net/spotlight/113/00CVQ-880a3c7a-9810-44e2-b4a1-549ef7a18519.PNG
• There is no lasting negative to being killed in PvP.  Within 3 seconds you will be revived in a safe area where you are free to reenter the battle.
• Consumable items such as potions and foods cannot be used. During the game though, special Battle Mode potions will randomly pop up on the battlefield. The effects of these items will begin as soon as a player picks them up.
• Every once in a while, the player with the highest score will be named “Champion” and a star will appear above his or her head.
o Players who defeat the Champion in one minute or less will receive extra Battle EXP and Battle Points.
o Champions who survive for more than one minute will also receive bonuses.
o If the Champion is killed five times, he or she will be revived with a “Rage” buff that raises their Attack and Defense rating for two minutes.

PvP Rewards
Battle Experience
Battle Experience Points are granted at the end of a PvP battle. Like regular experience, Battle Experience accumulates and periodically contributes to a rise in your Battle Rank. Battle Rank offers a variety of benefits and is completely separate from your character’s level.

Battle Points

Battle Points are exchanged for Gallant Emblems through the BP Exchanger in Battle Square. You can use Gallant Emblems to purchase exclusive items from Larson, another NPC in Battle Square.
http://nxcache.nexon.net/spotlight/113/00CVQ-c55cc79f-0e6b-44cb-bbb5-078aa60fa560.PNG
These items include a variety of accessories as well as a Mystery Scroll that turns into a random scroll when you use it and a Mystery Recipe that turns into a random crafting recipe when you use it. Gallant Emblems are also used as ingredients for some crafting recipes.

Battlefield Wisdom
There are two important concepts to understand about MapleStory PvP as you get started: First, it’s voluntary, and second, you should expect the unexpected.

Voluntary PvP
Unlike other games that have so-called “open PvP” worlds, PvP in MapleStory is completely voluntary. The majority of Maple World is a PvE environment where players cannot attack one another, so there’s never any need to worry about getting involved in PvP without warning. You can only start a PvP session by speaking with NPC Crawson.

Expect the Unexpected

Your first few PvP sessions may come as a bit of a shock if you’re not used to this mode, but the most effective way to get acclimatized to PvP is to expect the unexpected.
• Fighting players is nothing like fighting monsters. Players will move in unpredictable patterns. If they’re damaged, they may retreat to heal up and attack again. They may be working with partners who will heal and support them.
• Players are just as smart and powerful as you are. If you’re used to taking on monsters that get by with one or two attacks, it can be a little intimidating to face off against an enemy that has as many powers as you do and knows how to use them.
• PvP is faster than PvE. Very often the victor in a PvP match is the one who keeps the coolest head, uses their powers properly, and takes advantage of mistakes made by their opponent. Don’t be surprised or discouraged if you lose your first few PvP matches.

Battle Mode Gameplay
* Battles begin after the minimum number of participants has entered the map.
* To leave a battle map before a battle is over, click the Leave Room button that is located where the Cash Shop button normally is at the bottom of the screen.
* There are objects that may help or harm you in some of the battle maps.
* Different effects will appear depending on the damage.
* When your HP reaches 0, you will revive in the safe area and start the battle again after three seconds.

* Unique items regularly spawn in battle maps. Picking them up immediately uses them. There are lots of different items; most help you, but some can hinder you.
* Be careful of the Random Boxes, with the question marks on them. They can temporarily double the scores you earn, grant invincibility, transform you into a monster, or lower your HP or MP.

Champion and Rage
- Periodically, the system will name the first place character as [The Champion].
- A star will appear on top of the character’s head if chosen. If he can survive for a minute, he can get extra EXP and points.
- Players who defeat the champion in less than one minute can get extra EXP and points.
- Upon the fifth revival of the Champion, he will get a Rage buff that raises ATT and DEF for two minutes.

Battle Mode Rewards
* Score points by defeating your opponents. Higher scores will give more EXP and BP (Battle Points).
* BP can be traded in for Gallant Emblems through the BP Exchanger in Battle Square.
* Gallant Emblems can be used to purchase various items from Larson in Battle Square, including various accessories, Mystery Scrolls (using one gives you a random scroll), and Mystery Recipes (using one gives you a random crafting recipe).
* Gallant Emblems are also required ingredients for some crafting recipes.
* Many of the items sold by Larson give bonus Battle Mode ATT.
* Larson also sells basic arrows and crossbow arrows for mesos in case you’re running low.
* A character’s Battle Mode rank is displayed next to “Rank” in the Character Info window.
* You can check you Battle EXP and current Battle Points in your Character Stat window.
